WCATSP Summer 2018 Items 3 and 4

Necklace of Tiplak’s Folly

20180815_204302 (2)

Several tribes in the north tell a story about a very strong, very prideful tribesman named Tiplak.  He would often claim that he was the strongest man in all of the lands and that none could match him.  He was always of course, cautious to tell others when he bragged aloud that he could never match the strength of the spirits. In his head, always to himself, he believed that he WAS stronger than even the spirits themselves.  Smarter, too, he reckoned.

Tiplak’s strength was used for good at first.  He used it to fight off several invading tribes to his own tribes’ lands and even invading outsiders.  When the battles had long since ended, and Tiplak’s hands grew idle, his greed and pride would get the better of him.

Tiplak would often travel far from his home village, during hunts or while scouting, and would run into other tribes in distant areas. While Tiplak was incredibly strong, strangely, he didn’t look as though he’d be.  He had the same stature as an average tribesman.  Tiplak decided he’d make a sport out of tricking strong men into wagers they could not win. Strong men tend to have much pride and were easy marks for his schemes.  He would win valuable gems and goods for his trickery, and would sometimes take coin as well. Always secretly, he knew he was smart enough to trick even the spirits.

For about three years, Tiplak roamed the lands, tricking those he came across, until one day he came upon two strangers upon a trail in the forest. A short, stocky looking man carrying a spear and a beautiful, lithe woman with golden eyes with a small dagger at her side.  She carried a large pouch on her belt that jingled quietly as she walked.

Tiplak considered himself considered himself quite friendly and charming, so he introduced himself.  The strangers responded in kind, the man smiling wide and the woman avoiding Tiplak’s gaze, as though shy.  Eyeing the man’s spear, Tiplak decided then that he would challenge the man to a test of strength.

Tiplak challenged the man, but he declined, saying he wasn’t nearly as strong as Tiplak, but that his traveling companion was.  Tiplak laughed at first, along with the man and woman.  His mirth turned to anger when he realized they were laughing AT him, not with him.  In anger, he said that he would challenge her then, and he would wager the most valuable things he possessed against the single most valuable thing they possessed.  THAT is how confident he was.

The man grinned wide, and produced a gold necklace seemingly from the air. He said that it was the most valuable thing they had with them.  Tiplak said he had much of value, but it wouldn’t matter because he would be the victor.

Tiplak drew his axes and put a bit of distance between him and the woman.  She offered for him to call for the start when ready. He called for the fight to start.

She moved faster than the eye could see.  A flurry of unarmed strikes battered his body, and he went down, dropping his weapons.  Tiplak saw red.  He lunged for her, his hands finding her small frame and bringing her to the ground.  Almost effortlessly, she rolled him over and pinned him down.  He struggled, screaming, but she was the stronger.  Eventually, he yielded.

The man never stopped smiling the entire time. After he got up and dusted himself off, Tiplak began to rummage through his things.  The man told him to close his pack.  With a terrible start, he saw the man’s pupils had become slits.  His body froze in place, and the woman began to laugh.

The man strode close to Tiplak, holding the necklace before him.  Tiplak felt his strength being drained from him, leaving him and going to the necklace. The woman’s laugh began to change.  It became an inhuman, animalistic cackle.  When his strength was drained, and the man close to him the man leaned in and said the following,

“THIS is the price of pride, boy.  Never believe you are greater than the spirits.”

As he spoke, he saw the man’s tongue was forked. Tiplak blacked out and awoke sometime later.  His strength had been taken and he was as weak as a child.  Tiplak disappeared into the wilderness, abandoning his tribe, and was never heard from again.

Ring of Success

20180815 203903 (3)

There was once a young woman named Atoria Vonones who lived in Solinaria city.  She was a middling craftswoman, but nothing quite set her apart from her peers.  She was also skilled in the scholarly arts and thought she could bring that knowledge to bear to assist in her own crafting.

Atoria closed her failing business temporarily and set to the library in Solinaria City. She sought hidden ways and means of crafting more effectively.

She spent months searching as she spent what little she saved up for this endeavor. She came across some strange tomes during her search, but none of them contained what she was looking for.  For some reason, she thought she had a lead at one point, but couldn’t remember the particulars.  She chalked it up to exhaustion.

Ultimately, as the last of her saved coin was spent, she realized she had failed.  Tomorrow she would have to reopen her failing shop and hope she didn’t lose everything.  She cried herself to sleep in her bed above her shop, wishing there was something she could do to get ahead of the competition.

When she awoke she found this ring on her nightstand.  She wasn’t sure where it had come from, but she thought it was pretty and put it on.  A flash of insight came over her.  She knew what she could do to make things work out better!

She figured out more efficient ways to craft the goods she had been making, churning out items faster than any of her competition could.

The ore she would receive from the mines used to be of sub-par quality and would require much working before it could be made into usable ingots.  Somehow, with her newfound luck, the ore she received came in almost already refined! She was even able to use some of it in its near-raw form in place of worked ingots.

Her customers commented that her crafted goods seem to last longer and provide greater protections than other merchants, and so business began to improve.  Life was going well.  She kept thinking back to the library though, and the books she had looked at.  There was some part of her that remembered a particularly strange tome… But as quickly as the thought bubbled to the surface, something would distract her and it’d return firmly to the back of her mind.

For the next 9 years, Atoria’s business boomed.  She made many connections and friends all over Solinaria.

On the morning of the 10th year after discovering the ring that she had grown to love, Atoria simply vanished.  All of her clothes and possessions were left in place, and nothing seemed to have been packed for a journey.  Foul play was not suspected since Atoria didn’t have any specific enemies or rivals, but nobody ever found where Atoria had gone.  Eventually, her business and belongings were sold, including this ring, which was found sitting on her nightstand.

This item grants the following abilities:

  • -1 Minute to crafting attempts
  • 2x per crafting period, you may substitute any 1 ore (up to tier 3) for its ingot version in a recipe.
  • 1x Extend any “until end of the event” crafting buff to last until the end of the following event. (So if it grants 2 disables, and you do not use either disable, you will still have them usable the following event.) per event.
  • 1x “I grant you/myself the ability to reactively become immune to physical attacks for 10 minutes while crafting once. if you/I attack the shield dissipates.” per period.
  • This item is soulbound.

WCATSP Summer 2018 Items 1 and 2

Scarab of Consequence

Scarab

There was once a Nikklari named Grek. Grek wasn’t the smartest Nikklari in the Empire, but he was pretty charming. He lived in the greatest cave in The Hollows, which was filled with many Nikklari families and homes. It was essentially a small city. Grek was different from other Nikklari. He coveted all manner of small trinkets and jewelry. Many Nikklari are content with what they already have, or only look for what they need to live, but there are some like Grek that always look for more.

It was on a summer day when Grek chanced to travel to the marketplace, to see if he could find anything delightful to take home with him. He chanced upon a golden scarab charm with a small gem embedded in it. Immediately he knew it was shiny enough that he must have it.

Grek was caught trying to steal the item. It was not the first time Grek was caught. A new Nikklari threw the book at Grek in an attempt to make a name for themselves as taking a strong stance against theft, and Grek quickly found himself exiled from his home.

Grek was heartbroken, and would wander the lands to the west of the Nikklari empire, eventually heading south and settling in Manasarwati. Grek enjoyed the materialistic nature of many of the people there, and eventually, he met another Nikklari wandering the Manasarwati lands. They would fall deeply in love, and find themselves married.  Grek would find work as a successful merchant.

One day, while in the marketplace, Grek was stunned to find the very same charm he’d tried to steal for sale by a neighboring merchant.  Grek thought of how much his life had changed because of this charm. He bought it immediately, and brought it home. Grek would keep the charm the rest of his days as a reminder of where he had come from. Eventually, Grek gave the item to a trusted apprentice, so that it might bring them luck.

This item grants the following abilities:

  • 2x Force Blade per period. (“I engulf this weapon in magical force 1 minute.”)
  • 2x Force Blast per period.  (“Force Blast, damage 5.”)
  • 1x Resist Silence per period.
  • Additionally, If you are a caster with a 5 damage spell or higher, the force blast becomes 2x Force Lance per period. (“Force Lance, damage 15.”)
  • This item is soulbound.

Ebony Ring of Shifting Realities

Ring

One morning you awoke to find this ring among your possessions.  Upon examination of the ring, you seem to have conflicting memories of how you gained it.  It is undoubtedly magical, but every time you sit to think about it, how you acquired the ring seems to change.

You have a memory of winning the ring during a particularly high-stakes game of Liar’s dice.  You angered its previous owner quite a bit: a woman named Myra. She claimed you cheated. As you think about it, she might be right.

You have a memory of finding the ring on a chain around a hobgoblin’s neck.  It was a hard fight, but the creature fell to your efforts and those of your companions.

You have a memory of receiving the ring from a dear friend on their deathbed, after becoming afflicted with a terrible illness. You cry as you feel the pain of the loss of a loved one.

You recall always having the item.  It was a gift from your parents.

You remember ice running through your veins as the Censharu murdered those around you.  Kavarek was winning the war, and there was nothing you could do to stop it. You clutch your lucky ring tightly.

The shifting realities have done something to this ring.  Has is been dislodged from its home reality? For reasons unknown to you, it has found a home with you.

This item grants the following abilities:

  • 2x Reactive Knockback 10 feet per period.
  • 2x Disable per period.
  • 2x Disarm per period.
  • Additionally, if you have at least 2 purchases of Disable, the Disable is upgraded to 2x Break Limb per period. if you have at least 2 purchases of Disarm, the Disarm is upgraded to 2x Shatter Weapon per period.
  • This item is soulbound.

Flowers of the Wayward Son (WCATSP Item 3, September 2017)

Flowers of the Wayward Son

Hello all! All who attend this upcoming event shall be eligible for a drawing in order to win a magic item. For our last WCATSP drawing this year, we will be having two drawings for two separate items!  These items will be auto-attuned, and ready to use for the next event you attend.

Flowers of the Wayward Son

A long time ago, a man named Aldin Einhard had a successful practice as a jeweler.   He specialized in crafting small, beautiful flowers made of gold that he painted into various colors.  He had a beautiful wife, Sabine, and a young son, Simon,  both of whom he loved dearly.

As the man watched Simon grow, he taught him the secrets of his trade.  He taught Simon everything about the process and craft; from the finesse required to work the metal into such small forms to the proper way to pitch to a prospective buyer.  Simon was a fast learner and took to the lessons easily.

All was not well, however. While Simon was adept at learning the skills his father taught him, he didn’t have the same passion that his father did for the craft.  Aldin loved seeing the look on a customer’s face when they had an item they truly loved.  He wasn’t concerned as much with making coin as he was with creating a finely crafted product and ensuring it went to the right owner.

Simon had an eye for coin that his father did not. So, as Simon grew into a man he and his father would fight often about what was right for the family business.  Aldin fought hard to keep his son away from what he thought would be a bad path, but Simon continued to focus only upon how much coin could be made from his work.

Eventually, this culminated in father and son going their separate ways.  Aldin continued his small business as Simon’s business grew and grew.  He stepped away from making the small flowers that his father was known for, and moved onto specialized, expensive pieces made for the rich and noble citizens of his city.

One day, rumors of his son’s disappearance came to Aldin.  Aldin was an older man now.  It had been 10 years now since he and his son had spoken, and it was near to his son’s 30th day of birth.  Aldin travelled across the city to where his son’s shop was, to find that its doors were shuttered, and the building seemed abandoned.

Aldin found a way into the building and found Simon’s journal in the living quarters above the shop.  The latest entries talked about wanting to break into the even more lucrative business of magic item creation.  Simon was always looking for an angle though, so he wanted to find someone who could assist him in the creation of items that would be the envy of the world over. He sought the tutelage of Yazil the Mad.  The last entry into the journal was made over 6 moons prior to Aldin finding it.

Despite all that they had been through, Aldin immediately set off to find his son.  It was summer at the time and the weather was the brutal sort of hot that one talks about for years after the fact.  Aldin soldiered through the beautiful weather and harsh terrain until finally reaching the edge of a thick forest, the center of which was rumored to contain Yazdil’s Tower.  Aldin would travel to hell for his son, like any good parent would.  Aldin stepped into the forest without hesitation, not looking back.

For days Aldin wandered the thick forest, noticing to his dismay that there wasn’t a single sound to be heard from any animal life.  All that he could hear were his steps crunching along the path. As his supplies began to dwindle, he came upon a clearing in the forest.

There was a body lying in the center of the clearing.  As Aldin approached, it became undeniable to his eyes that it was the body of Simon.  He was certainly dead, but there didn’t seem to be any evidence of wounds on the body.  There was no sign of decomposition either.

Aldin searched his son’s belongings, at first finding a small amount of coin.  When he searched his son’s satchel thoroughly, however, what he found made him weep.

Two Flowers, beautifully crafted just the way his father had taught him, with a small note attached that read as an apology to his mother and father for becoming distant.  One was meant for his mother, and the other, his father.

Aldin couldn’t bring his son’s body back with him through the woods over such a long distance, so he did the best he could to bury his son, as no father should ever have to, and journeyed home.

The Purple Flower grants you the following abilities:

Weep (x2/period): (“I cause you to weep uncontrollably 1 minute.”)

– Cure Disease (x1/period): (“I cure you/myself of disease.)

– At 4PM the Saturday of an event, irresistibly fall to the ground crying for 30 seconds, after which, gain 10 magical armor (or +4 Magical Armor stackable to your current if you have 10 or more magical armor).

– This item is Soulbound.

The Orange Flower grants you the following abilities:

Laugh (x2/period): (“I cause you to laugh uncontrollably 1 minute.”)

Cause Disease (x1/period): (“I cause you disease until cured.”)

– At 4 PM the Saturday of an event, you are irresistibly overcome with anger and unable to attack or cast spells for 30 seconds, after which you gain 10 magical health (or +4 Magical Health stackable to your current if you have 6 or more magical health).

– This item is Soulbound.

Trophy Necklace of Ozcaral (WCATSP Item 2, August 2017)

Trophy Necklace of Ozcaral

Hello all! All who attend this upcoming event shall be eligible for a drawing in order to win a magic item. This item will be auto-attuned, and ready to use for the next event you attend.

Trophy Necklace of Ozcaral

In the year 817 AU in the Agorian city of Quetzalocatl, a corpse was found with its eyes missing.  Disturbingly, the eyes seemed to have been removed while the victim was alive.  Agorian authorities were unable to track down the killer.  This fact was made all the more disturbing when another corpse showed up a moon later also missing its eyes.

As the investigation continued in earnest, more and more corpses began turning up in various places throughout the city, all with their eyes missing.  The investigator in charge of the case, a young female Agorian named Otlia was spending nearly every waking moment of hers in an attempt to track down the killer.

For the next 20 years, Otlia chased this killer to no avail.  Her marriage failed as a result of it, and she became completely estranged from her family.

It was only after she had lost everything, and turned into a creature of such desperation and focus that she began to notice a pattern in the killings.  It was subtle at first, but she noted that all of the killings seemed to be taking place in a particular type of area: anywhere there was relatively easy access to the sewers.

Without a family to hold her back any longer, Otlia was free to prowl the streets at night, looking for any potential suspect in the killings.  Near dawn, she came across a body in an alleyway, freshly killed and missing its eyes.

She felt a presence behind her and whirled around to face it.  Before her stood a creature out of nightmares.  It looked much like an Agorian, but in the dim light of the dawning sun, she could see that its scale colors and features were constantly shifting as freely as water flows.  Before she could make any sound of alarm, the creature spat poison at her, paralyzing her body.

She stood helpless as its features settled on that of a young Agorian male.  It stalked up to her silently as she struggled to move to no avail.  It was wearing a necklace around its neck, which it removed, then placed around hers.

It whispered in her ear quietly, in some otherworldly voice:

“Close.  So very close.”

The creature proceeded to remove her right eye while she stood there paralyzed by the poison in silent agony.  Blinded by the pain, she only remembered the creature kissing her once on the cheek, shifting its skin to match the surrounding alleyway and disappearing into the night.

The killings stopped shortly after Otlia encountered the creature.  She noticed that upon the necklace were 20 gems.  Each, she supposed, represented one of the creature’s victims. The murders never occurred again after Otlia’s encounter with the creature.

Otlia died alone of natural causes, and this necklace was auctioned off after her death.

This item grants you the following abilities:

Paralyze Poison (x3/event, via packet): (“Paralyze poison, 10 minutes.”)

Killing Blow (x3/event)

– If you successfully use a killing blow granted by this item, you are granted 6 magical health that stacks on top of whatever magical health you might already have.  This does not stack with itself.

– This item is Soulbound.

Pin of Regret (WCATSP Item 1, July 2017)

Pin of Regret

Hello all! All who attend this upcoming event shall be eligible for a drawing in order to win a magic item. This item will be auto-attuned, and ready to use for the next event you attend.

Pin of Regret

Shortly after Attalia was murdered by Ethali; Sigmund, the highest ranking of her celestials stepped forward to take her place.  He was granted the touch of the divine.  When she was resurrected, the touch of the divine was taken from him.

Sigmund would disappear for thousands of years, only for his name to be heard upon the lips of worshippers in the mid years of the 1100s.  In the Twin Kingdoms, the followers of Sigmund became increasingly aggressive over time, and a war was fought against them.  Make no mistake, however, not all followers of Sigmund spread his faith aggressively.  Many of them were farmers, people who wished to heal others.  Rumor has it the local magistrate even considered following him herself before his aggression became apparent.

Emory Quinn was among those who followed Sigmund during this time.  Emory was the ripe old age of 65 years old when Sigmund’s faith presented itself to him.  He lived a clean, honest life, and had made a great deal of money at a younger age, so he’d spend his days sitting on the porch of his house, overlooking the lake next to his house, and watching the day pass him by.

Emory had recently heard the call of the divine, and found that his life was made better by healing the sick and needy, when they came to his home.  Emory was too old to travel, and when clerics of Sigmund heard of him, they convinced him to join the church.

Emory never took part in the fighting that much of the followers of Sigmund took part in.  Emory was content to live on his porch, and heal those injured farmhands and sick children that came to him.

Word came to him that following Sigmund was no longer allowed, but Emory was a tough old man, and refused to budge.  Considering that the old man was still helping the needy in his small village, most overlooked it.

After Sigmund’s church was defeated and disbanded, still, Emory healed others.

One afternoon, as the sun was rising over the lake he lived near, a young handsome man approached him.  He introduced himself as Reus and sat down next to Emory. Strangers coming to visit Emory were a normal occurrence, so Emory spoke to him as if he was an old friend.  They spoke about life, about lost love, and about regret.  At no point did Reus ever ask for help from Emory.

As the sun began to set and the stars were beginning to show themselves, Reus stood.  He fell to his knees and began to weep into Emory’s chest.  Emory didn’t ask a word as to why the man was weeping.  He only comforted him until it passed. By now the sun had fully set.  Reus stood again, reaching into his pocket, and producing a small white pin.  He thanked Emory for being the kind man he was, embraced him tightly, and walked off into the night.

One week later, Emory passed from this realm into the next.  He had no next of kin, so his items were sold off.  Eventually this pin made it into your hands.

This item grants you the following abilities:

– Celestial Armor (x2/event): (“I grant you/myself celestial armor, 6 magic armor.”)

– Empowerment of the Celestials (x2/event): (“I grant you/myself empowerment of the celestials, 6 magic health.”)

– Celestial Healing, Greater (x2/event): (“I heal your/my body 10 health.”)

– This item is Soulbound.

Amber Eye of the Golden Construct (WCATSP Item 3, September 2016)

Amber Eye of the Golden Construct

Hello all! All who attend this upcoming event shall be eligible for a drawing in order to win a magic item. This item will be auto-attuned, and ready to use for the next event you attend.

Amber Eye of the Golden Construct

It is believed by many that Borain’s realm itself is guarded by towering constructs made from solid gold that gleam with the light of creation.  While gold is normally considered a soft metal, the strength of these creatures is supposed to be terrible beyond compare.  Besides their strength, they are said to command magics of every sort, as Borain would spare no expense to guard the treasures of his beloved realm.

Unfortunately for Borain, the greatest thief Manasarwati had ever known, Mad Man Miles, had found himself growing bored with normal heists and various petty pilferage upon the populace.  He had grown tired of all the mundane work he’d be doing, and he’d made more coin than he could spend in seven lifetimes. So, he took upon a challenge.  He would steal from the very God of Greed himself.  But what sort of treasure would show to the world what sort of great thief he was?

Miles, being the man he was, decided he’d simply up the challenge by figuring it out on the fly.  The stories vary greatly as to how he found himself within the deepest, most well-guarded vault in Borain’s realm.  Some believe he was the chosen of Ethali himself, Some believe that Elantrai had chosen him as hers.  There are some still that say Elantrai and Ethali fought over the man.  Miles himself never declared personally for any god, saying his own personal skill got him through.

All can agree however,  about what he took from Borain.  Mad Man Miles believed that simply stealing one of Borain’s (or really, all of Borain’s) most valuable treasures was simply a bit much.  He had enough money.  A flash of inspiration hit him.  He would steal an eye from the largest of the guardians that kept watch over this secret place.  He would do it just to show that he could, and he would leave everything else intact and untouched.  So, he did just that.

Miles wasn’t a man known for his modesty, so it didn’t take long for Borain to figure out who had dared to mar his most precious construct.  Borain is also not known for being forgiving, so, man and life were soon parted.  Nobody was ever able to figure out who stole the Eye at Mile’s wake.

You’re still unsure as to how it ended up in your hands.  A courier approached you with a package with this inside it.  After accepting the package, and opening the contents, you looked up the find the courier gone.

Turquoise Cuff of the Metalweaver (WCATSP Item 2, August 2016)

Turquoise Cuff of the Metalweaver

Hello all! All who attend this upcoming event shall be eligible for a drawing in order to win a magic item. This item will be auto-attuned, and ready to use for the next event you attend.

Turquoise Cuff of the Metalweaver

There is a small Dwarven Village in the Dragonspine Mountains that tells the legend of those they call “Metalweavers”.  They believe that once in a generation, a Dwarf is born with such natural skill in working metal, that it is akin to a skilled tailor weaving cloth.  There are some that do not believe that such individuals exist, and generally chalk it up to the talk of a small town trying to sell the quality of their smiths.

This cuff is said to have been created by one of those Metalweavers, a grizzled Dwarf by the name of Tordras Fardram.  Tordras was a worshipper of Gundar, and it is said that the joy he felt at smithing was second only to his raw skill. Tordras was most skilled in the forging of weapons.  But it is said he most loved repairing a beloved broken weapon, for there was not much more beauty to him than the eyes of someone who had something they thought lost, fixed.

Tordras created this bracelet so that it could help those who did not feel the blessing of Gundar as he did, and so that they might feel the same sort of joy.

At least, that’s what the merchant told you.
