Realms of Adventure Winter Awards Dinner 2018!

Palmer’s American Grille
123 Fulton Street
Farmingdale, NY 11735

Saturday, January 27th
7:30pm – 11:00pm

If you want to come to the dinner, YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER!  You CANNOT pay at the door because we have to give a head-count to the restaurant.

***** PRE-REG DEADLINE: Sunday, January 21, 2018, 8:00pm *****

Preregistration link: https://realmsofadventure.net/event-info/event-registration/

In the notes field, please make sure that you write in the name(s) of who the pre-reg is for. That way our attendance list will be accurate. Thanks!

< < < Event Details > > >

The venue this year is Palmer’s American Grille.

The cost for the dinner is $60 per person (menu is posted below). It is a delicious hot buffet in a private room. Anyone is welcome to come – players, friends, cast, staff, family, and loved ones. This is a great time to bring someone who is thinking about coming to game so they can meet our Family in a fun and social Out of Game setting!

Each person that currently attends or any person that is planning to attend a future game will get 4 character points and 7 tickets for the Door Prize Auction. Points and tickets will ONLY be given to current players and to new players who plan on attending in the upcoming season.

We do not have a dress code, but we ask that you please dress respectably and be mindful of other patrons. Dress pants or skirts, nice jeans, dresses, and even ties are all acceptable. (This is an Out of Game event so please do not wear your costume.)

Character Points

Since this is an official RoA event, if you attend you will receive 4 Character Points! These points are non-transferable and will ONLY be given to current players and to new players who plan on attending in the upcoming season. Normally a new player starts the game with 55 (or 60 with a background) Character Points but if you attend the dinner, you will have 59 (or 64) Character Points to spend!

Awards

This is our Annual Awards Dinner and that means awards! Each award won is worth 2 Character Points! Two types of awards will be given out:

1) The first group of awards are those voted on by you, our dedicated players (instructions on voting will be posted soon). Please follow these instructions as any votes that do not follow the rules will not be counted. You can only vote ONCE. Only people who have attended RoA can vote in the provided categories.

2) The second group of awards is granted by cast and staff to those players who have done memorable things over the past season. These are things that even the player who receives the award might not even realize made such an impact. You never know what we’ll come up with!

< < < Auctions > > >

Here’s how they work. There will be a number of In Game items up for auction. Staff will present and read a description of each item in the auctions. After they are done, the items and a printed description will be placed in front of their own ticket containers. Separate your tickets and hold onto the ones that say “KEEP THIS COUPON.” You can place the ones that say “TICKET” into any bowl or bowls that you want. The tickets will be shuffled and one drawn at random. If your ticket number is called, you win! Specific details follow for each auction.  The Premium auction has cards that can be purchased.

Door Prize Auction

Open to all, there will be a number of In Game items up for auction. These could include scrolls, powerful potions, magic items, and even a mystery bundle!

The 7 tickets for the Door prize Auction will ONLY be given to current players or those who are planning to attend RoA in the upcoming season. You place as many tickets as you want into each container, but you can only win ONE item from this auction. If you win more than one item, you can pick which one you would like to keep and another ticket will be drawn for the other.

Gift of Elantrai Auction

This auction is ONLY open to players and upcoming players who have NO magic items. This is specific to the PLAYER, not if you have an Alt Character without any magic items. Each entrant will receive one ticket to be used in this special auction.

The Elantrai Auction drawing shall take place before the other auctions, so anyone walking into the dinner without a magic item shall be eligible for the Elantrai Auction.

Premium Auction  (Spending Limit of $200)

This auction is completely optional. Unlike the Door Prize auction, you can win up to two items in this auction. Tickets will be available for purchase at the dinner. Tickets are not very expensive so everyone has a chance to participate. The details of the Premium items will be revealed before tickets are sold so everyone can think about what items they might want to try for. The items in this auction are considered rare and exceptional and even include a magic weapon!

If you can’t make it to the dinner but still want to participate in the Premium Auction, you can make arrangements with someone else to purchase tickets on your behalf and participate for you. Do not ask Cast or Staff members to do so.

< < < Menu > > >

* Dinner Rolls, Assorted Breads, and Butter
* Caesar Salad
* Roasted New Potatoes
* Seasonal Mixed Vegetables
* Filet Mignon tips sauteed with Wild Mushrooms
* Penne Ala Vodka
* Chicken Francais
* Grilled Honey Herb Atlantic Salmon

* Unlimited Soda, Juice, Coffee, Tea
* Dessert: Yellow cake with Buttercream Frosting, filled with 1/2 vanilla pudding, 1/2 cannoli cream

< < < Important Note > > >

Since this is an official RoA function, all are expected to follow our usual policies, especially those concerning drugs. Those who break this policy by bringing or using illegal drugs (or misusing legal ones) on the premises, parking lot, or any nearby areas will face serious consequences. We ask that you please keep this in mind so everyone can enjoy themselves.

< < < If you pay for the dinner, EVEN IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND > > >

If you plan to do this, you MUST LET US KNOW when pre-regging for the dinner.  Put “NO DINNER” in the box after your name on the pre-reg link.  We need to give the restaurant an accurate headcount.  (Example: Hayley Princeton – NO DINNER)

You will receive the following:
• 4 Character Points
• 7 Tickets for the Door Prize Auction
• 3 Tickets for the Elantrai Auction (If eligible for this Auction)
• Ability to participate in the Premium Auction (Ticket prices are $5 for 3 Tickets.)

You must make arrangements with a player (not Cast or Staff members) to distribute your tickets in the auctions. You must inform BOTH Ryan and Dave R who has been designated.

If you do NOT pay for the dinner, but still want to participate in the Premium Auction, you can make arrangements with someone else to purchase tickets on your behalf and participate for you. Do not ask Cast or Staff members to do so. You must inform BOTH Ryan and Dave R who has been designated.

As said above, the Elantrai Auction drawing shall take place before the other auctions, so anyone walking into the dinner without a magic item shall be eligible for the Elantrai Auction.

< < < Premium Auction Stretch Goals > > >

Based on player feedback, we agreed that all those who put into the Premium Auction deserve something, even if they don’t end up winning an item directly.  After all, everything you put into that auction goes to making the game as a whole better.  It is with that in mind that we are pleased to introduce the following new system:

ALL players that put in at least $5 into the Premium Auction shall receive an amount of character points based upon goals that we’re going to set for the total. (NOTE: This includes players that haven’t pre-regged/aren’t able to attend, as long as they are able to find someone to handle their tickets and money.)

In the end, we will be awarding *1-4 character points* based on internal goals that we have set.

The points above are considered ACTIVE (the same category as the points gained from the dinner).  So, you may spend them without worry on your next update.  Should you not spend them, they will be banked.

We look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones!

It’s time to vote for the recipients of the 2017 Season Awards, to be unveiled at the 2018 Winter Awards Dinner celebration!

Lets get those votes in! Remember, these categories are decided by YOU, the RoA community. As we have seen in the past, EVERY vote counts!

***** Official polling will end Friday, January 19th, 2018 at 11:59pm. *****

* PLEASE FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS *

    • You can vote for yourself.
    • You may vote for the same person in more than one category, such as “Best Roleplayer” and “Best Costume.”
    • ALL PCs, NPCs, AND STAFF may vote.
    • Each person only gets to vote once.
    • You must select your choices from PLAYERS who attended this season.  List provided below.  (If there are any errors or we forgot someone, please let us know.)

    • This is for PLAYER RECIPIENTS ONLY.
    • Use the Voting Submission Form below.

1) Rookie of the Year – This award goes to the best overall new player for the year. This should be the person you think really made a positive impact on the game in their first year. This award is open only to players who started at RoA in the 2017 season (newbies are denoted in Green Text in the list below).

2) Best Racial Portrayal (Pixie, Kelonian, Elf, Dwarf, Barbarian, Gypsy etc.) – Person who best portrays the race/culture their character is supposed to be from. This can be any human culture or other race.

3) Best Costume – Person who has the best overall costume.

4) Best Hero – Person who you feel is the best personification of a hero. Note that this can be anyone YOU feel this way about. If you feel that a person who most people think is evil was the most heroic, then put his/her name down!

5) Best Villain – Person who you feel is the best personification of a villain. Note that this can be anyone YOU feel this way about. If you feel that a person who most people think is a good guy was the most villainous, then put his/her name down!

6) Best Role Player (Male) – Male who was the best overall roleplayer.

7) Best Role Player (Female) – Female who was the best overall roleplayer.

8) Best Portrayal of Faith – The person who you feel most accurately portrayed and adhered to the tenants and beliefs of an in-game church. NOTE: This is not meant to be a “Best Cleric” award. Remember, though the overwhelming majority of Adraveth’s denizens are unable to channel divine magic, many are still deeply religious and choose to live their lives in accordance with the teachings of one of the world’s many faiths.

• Regarding “Campaigning” •

The act of “campaigning” for oneself or others (even if the disclaimer “not intended to sway the voting” or anything similar is added) has caused issues and controversy in the past so we ask that people avoid doing so. The awards are not meant to be a popularity contest or a political race, so please just vote for who YOU feel is a good candidate for an award. The awards is a happy and fun part of the end of one year and beginning of a new one. Let’s keep it that way and drama free! Further posts of that type will be removed.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

– Dave

Cast Shift Announcement – September 2017

Currently we have a group of players that generally perform their cast shift in the exact same slot each event.  This is a prior and ongoing arrangement that was made with this group of players, because during this shift, we allow them to run certain smaller plots.  They often stay past their end time to continue to do so.  We will be adding more lines to this time slot to accommodate additional people other than those already committed to the shift.

If there are any other groups of a maximum of 6 players who would like to have a similar arrangement with us (you MUST write and submit plots to run during this shift, prior to the event, no exceptions) please reach out to either Dave R or myself so we can make arrangements with you.  Please understand however, that an arrangement like this could very likely lead to you staying past the normal end time of your shift (although you WILL be compensated with service points if that is the case).

Flowers of the Wayward Son (WCATSP Item 3, September 2017)

Flowers of the Wayward Son

Hello all! All who attend this upcoming event shall be eligible for a drawing in order to win a magic item. For our last WCATSP drawing this year, we will be having two drawings for two separate items!  These items will be auto-attuned, and ready to use for the next event you attend.

Flowers of the Wayward Son

A long time ago, a man named Aldin Einhard had a successful practice as a jeweler.   He specialized in crafting small, beautiful flowers made of gold that he painted into various colors.  He had a beautiful wife, Sabine, and a young son, Simon,  both of whom he loved dearly.

As the man watched Simon grow, he taught him the secrets of his trade.  He taught Simon everything about the process and craft; from the finesse required to work the metal into such small forms to the proper way to pitch to a prospective buyer.  Simon was a fast learner and took to the lessons easily.

All was not well, however. While Simon was adept at learning the skills his father taught him, he didn’t have the same passion that his father did for the craft.  Aldin loved seeing the look on a customer’s face when they had an item they truly loved.  He wasn’t concerned as much with making coin as he was with creating a finely crafted product and ensuring it went to the right owner.

Simon had an eye for coin that his father did not. So, as Simon grew into a man he and his father would fight often about what was right for the family business.  Aldin fought hard to keep his son away from what he thought would be a bad path, but Simon continued to focus only upon how much coin could be made from his work.

Eventually, this culminated in father and son going their separate ways.  Aldin continued his small business as Simon’s business grew and grew.  He stepped away from making the small flowers that his father was known for, and moved onto specialized, expensive pieces made for the rich and noble citizens of his city.

One day, rumors of his son’s disappearance came to Aldin.  Aldin was an older man now.  It had been 10 years now since he and his son had spoken, and it was near to his son’s 30th day of birth.  Aldin travelled across the city to where his son’s shop was, to find that its doors were shuttered, and the building seemed abandoned.

Aldin found a way into the building and found Simon’s journal in the living quarters above the shop.  The latest entries talked about wanting to break into the even more lucrative business of magic item creation.  Simon was always looking for an angle though, so he wanted to find someone who could assist him in the creation of items that would be the envy of the world over. He sought the tutelage of Yazil the Mad.  The last entry into the journal was made over 6 moons prior to Aldin finding it.

Despite all that they had been through, Aldin immediately set off to find his son.  It was summer at the time and the weather was the brutal sort of hot that one talks about for years after the fact.  Aldin soldiered through the beautiful weather and harsh terrain until finally reaching the edge of a thick forest, the center of which was rumored to contain Yazdil’s Tower.  Aldin would travel to hell for his son, like any good parent would.  Aldin stepped into the forest without hesitation, not looking back.

For days Aldin wandered the thick forest, noticing to his dismay that there wasn’t a single sound to be heard from any animal life.  All that he could hear were his steps crunching along the path. As his supplies began to dwindle, he came upon a clearing in the forest.

There was a body lying in the center of the clearing.  As Aldin approached, it became undeniable to his eyes that it was the body of Simon.  He was certainly dead, but there didn’t seem to be any evidence of wounds on the body.  There was no sign of decomposition either.

Aldin searched his son’s belongings, at first finding a small amount of coin.  When he searched his son’s satchel thoroughly, however, what he found made him weep.

Two Flowers, beautifully crafted just the way his father had taught him, with a small note attached that read as an apology to his mother and father for becoming distant.  One was meant for his mother, and the other, his father.

Aldin couldn’t bring his son’s body back with him through the woods over such a long distance, so he did the best he could to bury his son, as no father should ever have to, and journeyed home.

The Purple Flower grants you the following abilities:

Weep (x2/period): (“I cause you to weep uncontrollably 1 minute.”)

– Cure Disease (x1/period): (“I cure you/myself of disease.)

– At 4PM the Saturday of an event, irresistibly fall to the ground crying for 30 seconds, after which, gain 10 magical armor (or +4 Magical Armor stackable to your current if you have 10 or more magical armor).

– This item is Soulbound.

The Orange Flower grants you the following abilities:

Laugh (x2/period): (“I cause you to laugh uncontrollably 1 minute.”)

Cause Disease (x1/period): (“I cause you disease until cured.”)

– At 4 PM the Saturday of an event, you are irresistibly overcome with anger and unable to attack or cast spells for 30 seconds, after which you gain 10 magical health (or +4 Magical Health stackable to your current if you have 6 or more magical health).

– This item is Soulbound.

Changes to Crafting Pickup

As we try to streamline the process, we’re experimenting with a new method for picking up your crafting goods.

At the designated pickup times there will be a box containing a group of alphabetized folders (by player name) inside of the room where Moriarty would normally be there to hand off items.  (This room is accessible via the bar area.)

Players will be able to go into the room (which will be under 24 hour video surveillance) to retrieve the contents of their folder (and ONLY the contents, please do not take the folder itself).

Please do not move the box from its place when taking your items from your folder.

This box will only be removed from the room while dropped off crafting reports are being processed, otherwise the box will remain in the room at all times.

Dropoff times and procedure shall remain unchanged.

Trophy Necklace of Ozcaral (WCATSP Item 2, August 2017)

Trophy Necklace of Ozcaral

Hello all! All who attend this upcoming event shall be eligible for a drawing in order to win a magic item. This item will be auto-attuned, and ready to use for the next event you attend.

Trophy Necklace of Ozcaral

In the year 817 AU in the Agorian city of Quetzalocatl, a corpse was found with its eyes missing.  Disturbingly, the eyes seemed to have been removed while the victim was alive.  Agorian authorities were unable to track down the killer.  This fact was made all the more disturbing when another corpse showed up a moon later also missing its eyes.

As the investigation continued in earnest, more and more corpses began turning up in various places throughout the city, all with their eyes missing.  The investigator in charge of the case, a young female Agorian named Otlia was spending nearly every waking moment of hers in an attempt to track down the killer.

For the next 20 years, Otlia chased this killer to no avail.  Her marriage failed as a result of it, and she became completely estranged from her family.

It was only after she had lost everything, and turned into a creature of such desperation and focus that she began to notice a pattern in the killings.  It was subtle at first, but she noted that all of the killings seemed to be taking place in a particular type of area: anywhere there was relatively easy access to the sewers.

Without a family to hold her back any longer, Otlia was free to prowl the streets at night, looking for any potential suspect in the killings.  Near dawn, she came across a body in an alleyway, freshly killed and missing its eyes.

She felt a presence behind her and whirled around to face it.  Before her stood a creature out of nightmares.  It looked much like an Agorian, but in the dim light of the dawning sun, she could see that its scale colors and features were constantly shifting as freely as water flows.  Before she could make any sound of alarm, the creature spat poison at her, paralyzing her body.

She stood helpless as its features settled on that of a young Agorian male.  It stalked up to her silently as she struggled to move to no avail.  It was wearing a necklace around its neck, which it removed, then placed around hers.

It whispered in her ear quietly, in some otherworldly voice:

“Close.  So very close.”

The creature proceeded to remove her right eye while she stood there paralyzed by the poison in silent agony.  Blinded by the pain, she only remembered the creature kissing her once on the cheek, shifting its skin to match the surrounding alleyway and disappearing into the night.

The killings stopped shortly after Otlia encountered the creature.  She noticed that upon the necklace were 20 gems.  Each, she supposed, represented one of the creature’s victims. The murders never occurred again after Otlia’s encounter with the creature.

Otlia died alone of natural causes, and this necklace was auctioned off after her death.

This item grants you the following abilities:

Paralyze Poison (x3/event, via packet): (“Paralyze poison, 10 minutes.”)

Killing Blow (x3/event)

– If you successfully use a killing blow granted by this item, you are granted 6 magical health that stacks on top of whatever magical health you might already have.  This does not stack with itself.

– This item is Soulbound.

Pin of Regret (WCATSP Item 1, July 2017)

Pin of Regret

Hello all! All who attend this upcoming event shall be eligible for a drawing in order to win a magic item. This item will be auto-attuned, and ready to use for the next event you attend.

Pin of Regret

Shortly after Attalia was murdered by Ethali; Sigmund, the highest ranking of her celestials stepped forward to take her place.  He was granted the touch of the divine.  When she was resurrected, the touch of the divine was taken from him.

Sigmund would disappear for thousands of years, only for his name to be heard upon the lips of worshippers in the mid years of the 1100s.  In the Twin Kingdoms, the followers of Sigmund became increasingly aggressive over time, and a war was fought against them.  Make no mistake, however, not all followers of Sigmund spread his faith aggressively.  Many of them were farmers, people who wished to heal others.  Rumor has it the local magistrate even considered following him herself before his aggression became apparent.

Emory Quinn was among those who followed Sigmund during this time.  Emory was the ripe old age of 65 years old when Sigmund’s faith presented itself to him.  He lived a clean, honest life, and had made a great deal of money at a younger age, so he’d spend his days sitting on the porch of his house, overlooking the lake next to his house, and watching the day pass him by.

Emory had recently heard the call of the divine, and found that his life was made better by healing the sick and needy, when they came to his home.  Emory was too old to travel, and when clerics of Sigmund heard of him, they convinced him to join the church.

Emory never took part in the fighting that much of the followers of Sigmund took part in.  Emory was content to live on his porch, and heal those injured farmhands and sick children that came to him.

Word came to him that following Sigmund was no longer allowed, but Emory was a tough old man, and refused to budge.  Considering that the old man was still helping the needy in his small village, most overlooked it.

After Sigmund’s church was defeated and disbanded, still, Emory healed others.

One afternoon, as the sun was rising over the lake he lived near, a young handsome man approached him.  He introduced himself as Reus and sat down next to Emory. Strangers coming to visit Emory were a normal occurrence, so Emory spoke to him as if he was an old friend.  They spoke about life, about lost love, and about regret.  At no point did Reus ever ask for help from Emory.

As the sun began to set and the stars were beginning to show themselves, Reus stood.  He fell to his knees and began to weep into Emory’s chest.  Emory didn’t ask a word as to why the man was weeping.  He only comforted him until it passed. By now the sun had fully set.  Reus stood again, reaching into his pocket, and producing a small white pin.  He thanked Emory for being the kind man he was, embraced him tightly, and walked off into the night.

One week later, Emory passed from this realm into the next.  He had no next of kin, so his items were sold off.  Eventually this pin made it into your hands.

This item grants you the following abilities:

– Celestial Armor (x2/event): (“I grant you/myself celestial armor, 6 magic armor.”)

– Empowerment of the Celestials (x2/event): (“I grant you/myself empowerment of the celestials, 6 magic health.”)

– Celestial Healing, Greater (x2/event): (“I heal your/my body 10 health.”)

– This item is Soulbound.
