Hey man glad to see you are so into it. I'm sure you'll have a blast!Anyways to answer your question...I love boffer fighting and play a heavy combat character but night tends to be my worst enemy. Depth perception takes a hit and you can't tell who is approaching you until they are basically there. Then there is the problem of enemies seemingly coming from no where and you being surrounded. If you see someone coming towards you on the road try to call out to them to get them to ID themselves, if they don't respond I would try to avoid them or head the other direction. Then again I have terrible night vision so you may not be in the same boat.
Endurance is a huge thing that will give you an advantage although two weeks of training won't do much. The best thing I think you can do combat wise is try to make an actual style or form. Sometimes boffer combat is just so frantic and about who can hit who first and faster that it just looks lame. Two people who are fighting each other, who aren't trying to frantically trying to get the most hits in but are fighting more strategic trying to avoid hits as much as they are trying to land them both feel more realistic and is far more enjoyable for those watching.Besides combat the best thing to do is try to figure out what your character would do in a split second decision. Roleplaying for me tends to be far harder than combat and I spend alot of time trying to make sure that in a snap decision I'm doing what my character would do and not the first thing that comes to my oog mind.
You are brave ill give you that. The baron hated you to start and then after everything that happened on Sunday with the vulk the baron will have both our heads on pikes ????
As a newer player I would suggest everything milo said. Also when picking skills take the vision you have for your character and try to focus on skills that can be renewed like health or mana or continuous use skills first overall you will get more use out of them which should be more fun.
I remember a long long time ago a clarify say that in order to have Florentine you need the appropriate weapon skills as pre-reqs such as small weapon. Did this change or is my memory just off?
btw i have some questions ... Campfires are they allowed ? Do I need to bring my tent or can I get a cabin ? Is it cool if I camp alone ?Hookah allowed ? Alcohol ? How close to period do I need to be ? Armour and weapon weight ?
Lets see....1. Yes campfires but there must be a designated fire marshal overseeing the campfire at all times. The marshal can be anyone but once you are designated you CANNOT leave the fire unless you hand off responsibility to someone else. So if your watching the fire and Orcs decide you look like an easy squishy to kill you can't run away from them (please do not fight close to fires ever SAFETY FIRST).2. You can bring a tent, or use one of the tents already on site (if they are set up still) or you can sleep in one of the many cabins all are options and none are strictly closed off to player use besides the bunks in the tavern building, these are cast only.3. You can camp alone if you wish.4. Hookah as far as I'm aware isn't against the rules but I would wait for a ruling since the device itself uses hot coals and could potentially run a slight safety hazard when compared to pipes and cigars etc.5. Alcohol and illegal drugs are in no way allowed during the event. If you are found in possession of either of these things then you will be.. A. Asked to leave the game and may be suspended from the game for a period of time all the way up to banned forever. B. If you are under age or have illegal drugs we are required to call the local police and have them deal with the matter. Please note even if you are 21 Alcohol is NOT ALLOWED.6. Costume can be as simple as black sweat pants and a tabard or as complicated as a full suit of armor. It is really up to you! Also the photo galleries on the site can give you an idea of what most of us do. (The people of Calendale section has a large percentage of the characters in game both players and NPC's.)7. Armor can be as heavy as you want, even an actual suit if you are willing to do ALOT of walking in it all weekend. As for weapons I will hold off and let some of our seasoned boffer smiths answer that. If you need a weapon and have a little cash to throw around check out the OOG market place as some of our players do custom orders (and are extremely good at what they do).Keep in mind that these are the rules as far as I know and i can be incorrect on somethings so please wait for Mike R. (the owner of the game) to weigh in as he has the final say on all rule clarifications.
Don't get the wrong idea…even though we aren't heavy contact that doesn't mean are battles don't get intense. Trust me come Monday you will feel like you ran a marathon every day the entire weekend. ;D
It's true. I know none of the rules and sometimes I tell newbies wrong info. on purpose cuz' I think it's funny as hell. 😀

Hey welcome aboard your in for a great weekend!To answer your question you will have to start as a practitioner but your character can already have his mind set on which god or goddess he wants to follow. Also you can come into game with a Negoro holy symbol if you want. It's still recommend that you talk to other clerics in game to find out about the other gods since the website only gives you a brief idea of what the gods are all about. Once you see and learn things in game about the other gods it could possibly change your mind.Hope that helps!
